Self-Management Programs

The Wellness Institute offers a number of options to help those with chronic conditions manage their health. You don't have to be a member to enroll. Check out the current issue of Positively Healthy for program schedules. Current programs include:

  • Lean Keen Kidney Machines: a 12-week exercise program for people living with chronic kidney disease, including all Renal Health Clinic patients and anyone on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Call Kristen at 632-3942 for details.
  • Bone Matters: An activity-based program for people with, or at risk of developing, osteoperosis. Develop a safe, effective personal activity program.
  • Stroke Exercise Program: A twice-a-week, 8-week exercise program for those who have completed rehabilitation. Learn to improve your strength and mobility with chair exercises and other moves adapted to your ability level. Participants must be able to walk with or without a walking aide, or have an attendant. The focus is on improving individual fitness levels and is not intended as a group therapy treatment.
  • Reduce/Quit Smoking: A 6-week path to a smoke-free lifestyle based on an effective addiction treatment model. Address both the tobacco addiction and the behaviours of smoking in a supportive group format.
