For New Members

As a new member of the Wellness Institute, you are encouraged to take part in a personal wellness planning session. This is a private one-on-one session with an experienced exercise specialist. The session is optional but recommended for even the seasoned athlete.

Health Screening

At the time of joining, you will fill out a Health Screening Questionnaire to determine your health risks or medical concerns. Depending on your results, we may recommend additional screening through a cardio-metabolic assessment or graded exercise test.

Personal Wellness Plan

Following your health screening you will have a one-on-one wellness planning session. The session begins with a fitness assessment that provides measure of your current physical condition. You have the option of being reassessed every 12 months thereafter to determine your progress. Your assessment may include:

  • Measuring and recording your height, weight and girth measurements (chest, waist, hip, thigh, calf & bicep)
  • Measuring and recording your resting blood pressure and heart rate
  • Determining your body composition estimation from your body mass index
  • Measuring your cardio-respiratory endurance from a sub-maximal bicycle
  • Flexibility test for your hips, lower back and hamstrings
  • Measuring your upper body muscular strength and endurance from a hand grip and/or push up test
  • Curl up test to measure strength and endurance in your abdominals
  • Determining your Target Heart Rate Zone for cardiovascular exercise.

With the results of these tests plus what you tell us as your personal fitness goals, we can offer you on an individualized exercise program that is tailored to your needs and goals.

To keep you motivated, you will be able to choose from a variety of fitness options free to our members through our Exercise Schedule, as well as some discounts on other programs available through Positvely Healthy and some of our Wellness Services.

Members can also request an orientation to become familiar with proper use of our cardiovascular or strength training machines.
