Cardiac Rehabilitation is a medically supervised exercise and education program to help heart patients return to better health after a heart attack or diagnosis of certain other heart conditions. The goal is to help you regain strength, reduce the risk of another cardiac event and keep an already present heart condition from getting worse.
Please call 632-3907 for details on how to get started, visit Our Program or check Positively Healthy for upcoming program dates.
Is it for me?
Cardiac rehabilitation may be beneficial for people of all ages and with many forms of heart disease. If you've had a heart attack or heart surgery, or if you have another heart condition, ask your doctor about joining a cardiac rehabilitation program. In particular, you may benefit if your medical history includes:
- Heart attack
- Coronary artery disease
- Heart failure
- Angina
- Cardiomyopathy
- Certain congenital heart diseases
- Coronary artery bypass surgery
- Valve replacements
- Certain arrythmias
Don't let advancing age hold you back from joining. Even if you're older than 65, you're as likely to benefit from cardiac rehabilitation as younger participants are. In fact, because older adults with heart disease often are less able to exercise and have a higher disability rate, they may benefit the most from a cardiac rehabilitation program.
If you have not yet been diagnosed with heart disease, but are concerned about your risk factors, you may want to try the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada's Risk Test and discuss your concerns with your physician.
