Daffodils for Cancer

As the flower of spring, the daffodil symbolizes new life and hope for the future. Purchase a bunch or two and join us in raising funds to fight cancer and make this year’s campaign a huge success!

Daffodils will be on sale in the lower level of the Wellness Institute and the Seven Oaks General Hospital Courtyard from 9:00am to 4:00pm today, Wednesday, March 17, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society

Sales of the flowers will continue in the evening in the hospital Gift Shop from 4:00-8:00 pm.

Spring News

With spring program registration opening on Thursday, March 18th, it's time to check out what is new for spring!

This year, the Wellness Institute is bringing fitness to the community with five new bootcamp formats in locations across the city for a total of 22 boot camp options for every body and their schedule!

The complete program guide includes over 140 programs for all ages and abilities with 36 new and over 20 free options. And, if you are looking forward to summer already, our kids' summer camp program brochure is out and offers more of the popular Medical Masters camp!

Wednesday Wellness Contest

The Wellness Institute will be on air Wednesday, March 10th for Hot 103's Chuck Norris Birthday Bash. Listeners will be able to call in each hour for a chance to win a prize pack in honour of Chuck's 70th birthday. The prize pack includes an exclusive admission to a one-day session of our Hardcore Addiction Mixed Martial Arts boot camp.

Winners will join personal trainer, Paul on Wednesday, April 28th for a heart-stopping workout that combines moves designed for military, SWAT and MMA fighters.

Get Active for a Cause

Two upcoming events give you good reason to get active with us this spring.

Join us as we host the annual CP Bike Race on Saturday, March 13 on the gym floor of the Wellness Institute. Teams ride stationary bikes to raise funds for Cerebral Palsy.

Or Commit to Get Fit as part of our own 7th annual walk/run on Sunday, May 16. All the details are now online for how you can help us raise awareness for the power of activity and living well in disease prevention. Weight Loss Turns to Cheer

Blue Team Wins Weight Loss ChallengeThe Fall Fitter.Firmer.Faster Weight Loss Challenge at the Wellness Institute turned pounds lost into turkey for charity.

The official winners of the weigh in on Saturday, December 12th lost 131.8lbs (or 6.6% of their total weight). In celebration of their success, the Wellness Institute donated the equivalent weight in turkeys to the Christmas Cheer Board.

All members of the blue team took home a prize of Wellness Institute gift certificates which can be used towards any of the 130+ programs in Positively Healthy and a range of services.

Anyone interested in taking part in the next challenge can sign up between December 17th and January 7th either online under Classes & Programs or by calling 632-3900. The challenge was designed by a team of experts in fitness, nutrition and behaviour change for safe, effective weight loss. Participants must be ready to commit to support their teams in weekly classes and exercise plans.

A Dozen Free Things to Do in Winnipeg

Positively HealthyThe winter issue of Positively Healthy magazine is now available online with a dozen free health education options for anyone to attend plus over 30 new programs for body and mind. In total you will find well over 100 things to do in Winnipeg this winter.

Whether you want to lose weight, try a new kind of fitness routine, learn to meditate, sign you kids up for a class or spice up your cooking, there is something for all ages and skill levels to enjoy.

Plus this issue features stories on breathing easier through Pulmonary Rehabilitation and bringing wellness to the workplace.

Age Actively: Free Open House

Join us for free testing, activity options, seminars, exhibits and a prize draw. Learn how active aging can help you live well and enjoy life longer!

Today’s seniors have more options for active living and more years to look forward to. This open house is all about getting more out of your golden years. For all people ages 55 and up in support of Active Aging Week. Support people and attendee’s family are welcome. No registration... just stop by any time between 9:30am and 3:00pm.

Back to School Activities

Whether the back to school season is time for you to get the kids moving with some scheduled, active classes or time to do something for yourself, there are still openings available in our fall schedule of programs. Babysitting is available for the not-yet-school-age ones while you are here, whether you are a member or registered for a class.

This fall is a great time to lose weight, try something new, heat up the kitchen or improve your overall wellness.  So after you fill up their backpacks, take the time to check out the options in Positively Healthy.
