Respiratory Education Centre

Respiratory Education Centre

Respiratory conditions such as COPD or Asthma can affect your quality of life, often limiting your activities and sometimes leading to frequent hospital or doctor visits. The goal of the Community Respiratory Education Centre is to provide free help to understand and better manage your condition.

At the Centre we will help you:

  • Become informed and play an important part in your respiratory care
  • Develop self-management skills to better manage your condition

At the Centre you will learn:

  • About your respiratory condition (Asthma, COPD, Pulmonary Fibrosis or other)
  • To recognize and understand your body's warning signals
  • Your triggers and how to avoid them
  • How to effectively take inhaled medications (puffers)
  • How to develop an Action Plan (your personal guideline to follow if your respiratory condition gets out of control)
  • To evaluate your respiratory condition through breathing measurements (peak flow meter, spirometry testing)
  • How to achieve best results.

At the Centre, you will receive free individualized counseling, a complete assessment with a Respiratory Educator and follow up visits. Click here to download the brochure.

A Doctor's Referral Is Required

A doctor's referral is necessary. Before and throughout your treatment, your regular doctor will manage your respiratory condition. He/she is an active member of the team and will receive all the information regarding your care following every visit to the Centre. You may download a referral form here.
