Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The goal of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at the Wellness Institute at Seven Oaks General Hospital is to maximize quality of life and exercise tolerance for clients living with shortness of breath. This may include respiratory conditions such as COPD, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Bronchietasis, or Asthma.

The Program Will Help You:

  • Become informed and play an important part in your respiratory care
  • Develop self - management skills to better manage your condition

In The Program You Will Learn:

  • About your respiratory condition (COPD, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Bronchietasis, Asthma)
  • To recognize and understand your body's warning signals
  • How to effectively take inhaled medications (puffers)
  • About lung irritants and chest infections
  •  The importance of exercise
  • Breathing techniques
  • How to conserve your energy
  • Oxygen Therapy Nutrition
  • Recognizing and coping with stress

 

An initial assessment called "Intake" is done before you start the program. A Respiratory Therapist and Physiotherapist assess your respiratory condition and level of exercise. All sessions are delivered in a group setting with a maximum of ten clients per group.

Self Referral or Doctor's Referral

You may self-refer or your doctor can refer you to the program. Regardless of the referral process, your doctor will be contacted and sent a formal report at the end of the program. You may download a program referral form here.
